 In a move that has left fans, teammates, and the entire NHL community reeling, Florida Panthers left wing Matthew Tkachuk has reportedly “submitted his resignation letter” to the organization late Friday evening — or at least, that’s what sources pretend to be saying online.

The shocking “announcement” first appeared in a viral post featuring more emojis than punctuation and enough capital letters to make a typewriter overheat. The post claimed Tkachuk had decided to “resign from hockey to pursue personal growth, golf, and perhaps a YouTube channel.”

Neither the Florida Panthers organization nor Tkachuk’s actual representatives have confirmed the report, mostly because — well — it’s not real. Still, the internet did what it does best: explode.

“I can’t believe it. He was just smiling in practice yesterday,” said one fan, while another wrote, “If this is true, I’m resigning from being a fan.”

According to the fake report, Tkachuk’s letter was “handwritten on a Dunkin’ napkin and sealed with a slapshot.”
