BREAKING NEWS: Vancouver Canucks Extend Head Coach Adam Foote Through 2026
Vancouver, B.C. — The Vancouver Canucks made a major announcement today as Head Coach Adam Foote confirmed he has signed a contract extension that will keep him behind the bench through the end of the 2025–26 NHL season.
Foote addressed the media following Day 1 of the 2025 Canucks Training Camp, where he spoke about the team’s direction, expectations, and his excitement about continuing to lead the franchise.
“It’s an honour to continue building with this group.”
Standing in front of a packed media scrum at the Abbotsford Centre, Foote expressed gratitude for the organization’s confidence in him.
“This group has taken huge steps, and we’re nowhere near done,” Foote said. “I’m honoured to continue working with these players and this staff. The commitment from ownership and management has been tremendous, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.”
Foote, known for his defensive expertise and no-nonsense coaching style, has been credited with strengthening the Canucks’ structure and accountability since taking over the head coaching role.
Management Praises Foote’s Leadership
General Manager Patrik Allvin released a statement shortly after the announcement, calling Foote a “stabilizing force with a championship mindset.”
Allvin highlighted Foote’s ability to develop young players and maintain a competitive standard throughout the organization.
Training Camp Opens With High Energy
Day 1 of training camp featured high-intensity drills and early roster evaluations. Players spoke positively about Foote’s extension, saying it brings continuity and clarity as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Veteran forward comments included praise such as:
“He pushes us, and he believes in us. That’s the kind of coach you want going into a big year.”
What the Extension Means for the Canucks
Foote’s deal signals the club’s commitment to long-term stability as they continue their push toward becoming a consistent playoff contender. With several core players entering key contract years and a number of prospects emerging, the next two seasons will be pivotal.
The organization is expected to release further details later this week.
