DEAL ACCEPTED: Tampa Bay Rays Baseball Second baseman Ha-Seong Kim Signs….

In a significant move to bolster their infield and lineup versatility, the Tampa Bay Rays have signed veteran second baseman Ha-Seong Kim to a multi-year contract. The 29-year-old infielder, formerly with the San Diego Padres, brings elite defense, speed, and improving offensive numbers to a Rays team known for its tactical depth.

The deal is reportedly for 3 years and $36 million, with a mutual option for a fourth year. Kim, a native of South Korea, had been one of the most sought-after infielders in free agency this offseason due to his glove work and ability to play multiple positions.

In 2024, Kim hit .265 with 17 home runs, 62 RBIs, and 37 stolen bases, while earning high marks for his defensive prowess at both second base and shortstop. His 4.6 WAR (Wins Above Replacement) ranked among the best in the National League for middle infielders.

Rays GM Peter Bendix said in a statement, “Ha-Seong brings elite defense, speed, and a winning mentality. He’s the kind of player who fits our culture—versatile, smart, and team-first. We’re thrilled to welcome him to Tampa Bay.”

Kim is expected to take over the everyday role at second base but could also slide into shortstop or third depending on matchups, injuries, or the Rays’ ever-fluid lineup strategy.

With this signing, the Rays signal they are all-in on competing in the AL East and adding a veteran presence to their young, energetic clubhouse.
