In a league defined by global stardom, jaw-dropping contracts, and highlight-reel moments, Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum has chosen to use his platform for something far more powerful: purpose.
Shortly after officially signing his historic $338 million contract extension with the Celtics, Tatum announced that he will be donating his entire $64.7 million signing bonus to a nationwide initiative focused on mental health care access and inner-city youth development.
“Basketball gave me a voice. Now I want to use that voice for those who feel unheard,” Tatum said at an emotional press conference at TD Garden.
“This is bigger than the game. This is about healing, hope, and helping kids dream beyond their zip code.”

According to the newly launched Jayson Tatum Impact Fund, the $64.7 million will be invested in a multi-phase effort, including:

$25M to expand free mental health clinics in underfunded communities across Boston, St. Louis (his hometown), Chicago, and Atlanta

$15M to build and renovate safe recreational spaces and learning centers in urban neighborhoods

Tatum said the initiative was inspired by the struggles he witnessed growing up, as well as the rising mental health challenges affecting today’s youth — particularly in Black and underserved communities.
“I know what it feels like to grow up with pressure, pain, and not always knowing who to talk to,” he said.
“This is my answer to that.”
