In a surprising move ahead of the 2025 NHL Draft, the Colorado Avalanche and New York Rangers have completed a high-profile trade that could shake up both teams’ short- and long-term plans.
The Avalanche have acquired forward Carey Terrance and a 2025 third-round pick from the Rangers in exchange for veteran winger Chris Kreider and a 2025 fourth-round pick.
Terrance, a promising 20-year-old center known for his two-way play and high motor, was originally selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round of the 2023 NHL Draft and was later acquired by New York. He’s shown strong potential in the AHL and is expected to compete for a full-time NHL role next season.
On the other side, the Rangers bring in seasoned forward Chris Kreider, who has been a fixture in Colorado’s top-six since being traded there in 2023. Kreider, 34, brings experience, grit, and scoring punch to a Rangers team looking to make a deep playoff run.
