Moments ago, Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle touched down at Indianapolis International Airport after formalizing a major contract extension. The team confirmed this afternoon that Carlisle has agreed to a multi-year deal that keeps him at the helm well beyond the original terms that began in 2021 .

Carlisle, 64, who earned Coach of the Year in 2002 and led the Mavericks to the 2011 NBA title, is now entering his third year back in Indiana. His original four-year, $29 million deal (signed June 24, 2021) is now extended — though the club hasn’t released financial specifics .

General Manager Kevin Pritchard praised Carlisle’s leadership today, stating:

> “It goes without saying that Coach Carlisle is one of the most creative and successful coaches in the history of the league… we’re looking forward to working together for years to come as we build something special for our fans.”

Fans awaited at the airport to greet him, chanting “Go Pacers!” as he arrived with his family in tow. Carlisle smiled widely, scanning the cheering crowd before making his way to a sleek black SUV.

Since resuming leadership in 2021, Carlisle has overseen a rebuilding effort that rapidly gained traction: after a 25‑57 season in 2021‑22, Indiana improved to 35‑47 in 2022‑23, and then reached the Eastern Conference Finals in back-to-back years (2024 & 2025) — including a franchise-best 50-win season and an NBA Finals appearance in 2025 .

Carlisle’s contract extension is widely seen as a signal of the organization’s confidence in his vision — keeping pace with an exciting roster featuring Tyrese Haliburton, Bennedict Mathurin, Pascal Siakam, and more.

Formal unveiling planned later this week at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, open to select season-ticket holders.

Carlisle will rejoin team drills at practice today — a timely arrival ahead of their next matchup at home.
