BREAKING NEWS: Don Nelson Sends Shocking Message to Golden State Warriors Coach Steve Kerr and Entire Team in a stunning and unexpected turn of events, former Golden State Warriors head coach and NBA legend Don Nelson has sent a powerful and emotional message to current head coach Steve Kerr and the entire Warriors roster.

The message came during the latest episode of Nelson’s recently launched podcast, “Full Court Freedom,” where the Hall of Fame coach has been candid about his experiences in basketball, life in retirement, and the future of the game he helped shape.

During the episode titled “Warrior Spirit,” Nelson, 85, surprised fans by turning his attention directly to the current Golden State team.

“This isn’t just about wins and losses anymore,” Nelson said, his tone serious. “I see a team at a crossroads. Steve, you’ve done a hell of a job—but now it’s time to ask yourselves: what kind of legacy are you going to leave behind? Are you going to fade out quietly, or fight with everything you’ve got left?”

The heartfelt message wasn’t just directed at Kerr, but also seemed to challenge star players like Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, calling on them to “reignite the fire” that made the Warriors a dynasty.

“I bled for that organization,” Nelson added. “And I know what pride in that jersey means. This team still has the tools. What it needs is the soul.”

Fans and analysts alike have taken to social media to react, with many praising Nelson’s honesty and passion. Some are calling it a much-needed wake-up call as the Warriors prepare for what may be their final run with the current core.

  • Nelson, known for his unconventional coaching style and love for player freedom, coached the Warriors across two stints (1988–1995 and 2006–2010) and remains the winningest coach in franchise history behind Kerr. His voice still carries weight in NBA circles, and his message is already sending ripples throughout the league.
