In a move that has sent shockwaves of joy through Oil Country and reverberated across the NHL community, Edmonton Oilers General Manager Stan Bowman has officially confirmed that Jay Woodcroft is returning to the organization — this time in a brand new role.
Speaking at a surprise press conference Thursday morning at Rogers Place, Bowman revealed that Woodcroft received a formal letter from the club last week and has accepted the position of Senior Advisor to Hockey Operations and Player Development. In his new role, Woodcroft will focus on mentoring prospects, advising the coaching staff, and shaping long-term strategy for player development — areas where he has long been praised for his analytical mind and strong rapport with athletes.
