In a thrilling announcement for basketball fans everywhere, Netflix has unveiled the official release date for its newest sports documentary, “The UnderDog,” centered on Golden State Warriors legend and former NBA head coach Mark Jackson. The film is set to premiere globally on August 15th, 2025.

Billed as an unflinching, emotional, and inspiring portrait, “The UnderDog” traces Jackson’s remarkable journey from gritty New York City playgrounds to the NBA spotlight as a star point guard, revered leader, and later as a transformative—if controversial—head coach.

Produced by the award-winning team behind “The Last Dance,” the documentary promises never-before-seen archival footage, candid interviews with Jackson himself, NBA icons, teammates, and rivals, plus deep dives into his time with the Golden State Warriors, where he helped lay the foundation for their modern dynasty.

Netflix’s Head of Documentaries, Sarah Kim, called the project “a must-watch for basketball fans and anyone who loves stories about grit, faith, and overcoming the odds.”

Jackson, known for his fiery competitiveness and signature catchphrase “Mama, there goes that man!”, remains a beloved—and sometimes polarizing—figure in basketball circles. The film is expected to explore his career highlights, leadership style, controversial coaching exit, and personal evolution on and off the court.

Fans can expect the official trailer to drop in mid-July. “The UnderDog” will be available to stream in over 190 countries when it debuts on Netflix this August.

Stay tuned for more updates as the release date

approaches.
