BREAKING NEWS: Oklahoma Sooners News: Softball rolling in SEC tournament, baseball gets new matchup, recruiting whirlwind when…see more
The Oklahoma Sooners athletic program is making headlines once again — and for good reason. With softball steamrolling through the SEC tournament, a surprise shake-up in the baseball schedule, and a flurry of recruiting developments, it’s a whirlwind week in Norman.
Te Sooners softball team continues its reign of dominance, this time in its first year as a member of the Southeastern Conference. After defeating top-seeded Florida in a 7-2 thriller, Oklahoma has advanced to the tournament finals and remains the favorite to capture the title. Star pitcher Jordyn Bahl racked up 11 strikeouts in the semi-final, while the lineup exploded for three home runs.
“We’re not just here to compete — we’re here to win,” said head coach Patty Gasso. “This team is built for these moments.”
In a surprise midweek development, Oklahoma baseball will now face LSU in a regional rematch due to weather delays and bracket reshuffling. Originally scheduled to play Coastal Carolina, the Sooners will now prepare for a tougher test against the Tigers, a perennial College World Series threat.
Head coach Skip Johnson acknowledged the challenge: “It’s a curveball, but we’re ready to hit it.”
On the recruiting front, the Sooners are experiencing a surge across multiple sports:
-
Football: Four-star linebacker Carter Wilkins (TX) announced OU in his top 3 and is scheduled to visit next weekend.
-
Men’s Basketball: The Sooners received a commitment from 6’7” forward Jaylen Hargrove, a Top 100 recruit from Georgia.
-
Softball: 2026 pitching phenom Emily Reyes has Oklahoma on her shortlist after decommitting from Oregon.
Insiders suggest the momentum could result in Oklahoma’s strongest multi-sport recruiting class in years.
