BREAKING NEWS : Wife of Former Penrith Panthers Head Coach Dies Unexpectedly

The Penrith Panthers community has been left in shock following the sudden and unexpected passing of Sarah Thompson, wife of former Panthers head coach Michael Thompson, early Tuesday morning.

According to a family spokesperson, Sarah, 54, passed away peacefully at their Glenmore Park residence after what has been described as a “brief but serious medical episode.” Paramedics were called to the home shortly after 6 a.m., but despite rapid intervention, she could not be revived.

Michael Thompson, who coached the Panthers from 2014 to 2018, released a short statement thanking fans and the rugby league community for their overwhelming support.

“Sarah was the heart of our family and the quiet strength behind everything I achieved in my career,” Thompson said. “We ask for privacy as we navigate this unimaginable loss.”

Players, both past and present, expressed their condolences across social media, remembering Sarah as a warm, generous presence who frequently supported team charity events and community programs.

Panthers CEO Lisa Murray also offered heartfelt sympathies, noting Sarah’s impact beyond the club.

“Sarah was deeply respected and loved within the Panthers family. Her compassion and dedication to our community will never be forgotten,” Murray said.

A memorial service is expected to be held next week, with details to be shared by the family.
