In a powerful display of generosity and commitment to social impact, Charlotte Hornets guard Seth Curry has invested $20.8 million to convert a large historic property in Charlotte into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youth.
The initiative, named “Curry House of Hope,” is set to open in early 2026 and will provide housing, education support, mental health services, and job training to youth experiencing homelessness in the greater Charlotte area. The shelter will have the capacity to house up to 75 young people at a time, ages 14 to 24, with a strong focus on long-term stability and life skills development.
“This isn’t just a shelter—it’s a lifeline,” said Curry at a press conference outside the future site of the facility. “Too many kids are falling through the cracks. I wanted to create a place that gives them not just a bed, but a path forward.”
Curry, 34, who signed with the Hornets in 2024 and is the younger brother of NBA superstar Stephen Curry, has long been involved in community outreach. However, this marks his largest philanthropic effort to date. The NBA veteran worked closely with local officials, housing advocates, and architects to ensure the facility is both trauma-informed and future-ready.
The project will also feature:
On-site counselors and case managers
A technology lab and career training center
Classrooms for GED and continuing education programs
Art and recreation therapy spaces
A culinary training kitchen and community dining area
Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles praised Curry’s vision, calling it “a game-changer” for the city’s youth. “This shelter isn’t just a gift—it’s a foundation. Seth is showing what it means to lead off the court.”
The transformation of the property is already underway, with construction teams prioritizing sustainable materials and green design. The project will also create dozens of local jobs during the renovation phase and more than 40 permanent positions once the facility opens.
In a league where athletes often use their platform to inspire, Seth Curry’s commitment to Charlotte’s underserved youth is already being hailed as one of the most impactful acts of NBA philanthropy in recent memory.
