Building a Championship Foundation
Hutchinson, 24, has quickly become the face of the Lions’ defense since being drafted No. 2 overall in 2022. Known for his relentless motor, leadership, and disruptive play, Hutchinson has already racked up double-digit sacks, Pro Bowl selections, and become a fan favorite at Ford Field.
“Aidan is everything we want in a Lion — tough, smart, relentless, and committed,” said GM Brad Holmes in a statement. “This extension is just the beginning. We believe he’s a key pillar in our championship pursuit.”
Loyalty to Detroit
Hutchinson, a Michigan native and former University of Michigan standout, has repeatedly expressed his desire to remain in Detroit long term. This extension fulfills that promise, and sends a strong message that the Lions are committed to keeping their young core intact.
“This city means everything to me,” Hutchinson said. “To wear this jersey and represent Detroit — now and for the future — is an honor I don’t take lightly.”
What’s Next?
The deal gives Detroit continued flexibility to build around a defense that has been rising fast under head coach Dan Campbell. With Hutchinson locked in, the Lions are expected to be aggressive in free agency and player development as they chase a deep playoff run in 2025.
