Robinson, who passed away in September 2023 at the age of 86, spent all 23 of his Major League seasons with the Orioles. Known as “The Human Vacuum Cleaner” for his unmatched skill at third base, Robinson won 16 Gold Gloves, was an 18-time All-Star, and earned the American League MVP in 1964. His name has long been synonymous with defensive brilliance and quiet leadership.

Now, his legacy takes on even greater significance.

The Orioles announced that a new plaza outside Camden Yards will be named the Brooks Robinson Legacy Plaza, featuring a redesigned statue, interactive exhibits chronicling his life and career, and a permanent display of fan letters, tributes, and memorabilia. Additionally, the team will begin referring to its annual community service award as the Brooks Robinson Humanitarian Award, a nod to his decades of philanthropic work in Baltimore and beyond.

“We wanted to do something that wasn’t just symbolic,” said Orioles CEO John Angelos. “Brooks Robinson wasn’t just a great player—he was the soul of this franchise. What we’re doing here is about history, yes—but it’s also about heart.”

Former teammates, current players, and Orioles alumni were on hand for the unveiling, including Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr., who called Robinson “the gold standard for how to be a professional—on the field, and off it.”

The tribute is part of a broader effort by the Orioles to reconnect with their storied past while building toward the future. As the team contends in the American League and a new generation of stars emerges, the memory of Brooks Robinson serves as a powerful reminder of the values that have long defined Orioles baseball: integrity, humility, and excellence.

For fans, the recognition is deeply personal.

“Brooks was Baltimore,” said longtime fan Sharon Lewis, who attended the ceremony wearing a vintage No. 5 jersey. “You couldn’t grow up in this city and not love him. This means everything.”

The Brooks Robinson Legacy Plaza is set to open to the public ahead of the Orioles’ next homestand. The team also announced that each home game this season will feature a short in-game segment called Moments with Brooks, highlighting anecdotes from his life, career highlights, and fan stories.
