ESPN reports that the Baltimore Ravens have officially announced plans to build a bronze statue in honor of Hall of Fame safety Ed Reed, one of the most revered defensive players in NFL history.

The statue will be installed outside M&T Bank Stadium, facing the main entrance plaza, where it will join the existing monument to legendary linebacker Ray Lewis. Construction is expected to begin later this year, with an unveiling ceremony planned for the start of the next NFL season.

Team owner Steve Bisciotti spoke at a brief press conference today:

> “Ed Reed is the embodiment of Ravens football: fearless, brilliant, and completely dedicated to winning. This statue will remind generations of fans about his greatness and the standard he set.”

Reed, who played 11 seasons in Baltimore, was known for his uncanny ability to read offenses, his ball-hawking skills (54 career interceptions with the Ravens), and his game-changing touchdowns on defense and special teams. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest safeties to ever play the game.

The Ravens front office said the statue will depict Reed in his classic #20 jersey mid-celebration after an interception return, capturing the energy and intensity he brought to every snap.

Fans and former teammates quickly reacted on social media, calling the move “long overdue” and praising the team for immortalizing another cornerstone of the 2000s Super Bowl-winning defense.
