Snooker legend Steve Davis, famously known as “The Nugget,” has shared one of the most heartfelt reflections of his personal life, revealing the touching story of how he fell in love with his wife, Judith Davis (née Greig).

Speaking candidly in a recent conversation, the six-time world champion opened up about their very first meeting and how it unexpectedly changed the course of his life.

“When I first met Judith, I’ll admit she wasn’t what I expected,” Davis recalled with a smile. “My mind was fully on footy and I wasn’t looking for anything else. At that time, my focus was completely on my career and the life around the sport.”

However, something about Judith quickly caught his attention.

“But Judith was different,” he continued. “She had this spark about her. She was confident, full of energy, and she wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. That immediately stood out to me.”

According to Davis, what started as a simple meeting slowly developed into something far more meaningful. The more time he spent with her, the more he began to realize that she was someone truly special.

“At the time, I wasn’t sure how things would go,” he admitted. “But the more I got to know her, the more I realized how special she is. She brought a balance to my life that I didn’t even know I needed.”

The snooker icon, whose dominance in the 1980s made him one of the most recognizable figures in the sport and a champion of events like the World Snooker Championship, said Judith’s support has been a constant throughout his journey.

“There were many moments in my career when the pressure was enormous,” Davis explained. “Having someone like Judith beside me — someone who believed in me and kept me grounded — made all the difference.”

He added that their relationship has been built on mutual respect, patience, and understanding, qualities he believes are essential for lasting love.

“But what truly made me realize I wanted to spend my life with her,” Davis concluded, “was the way she stood by me through everything — the highs, the lows, the victories, and the tough times. That’s when I knew she wasn’t just special… she was the one.”

Today, Davis says he considers himself fortunate not only for his success in snooker but also for the life he built with Judith.

“Winning titles was incredible,” he said, “but finding the right person to share life with — that’s the real victory.”
