In the aftermath of the devastating tornado that tore through parts of St. Louis last week, one couple from Northwest Indiana has emerged as a beacon of hope, driving hundreds of miles to deliver critical supplies and compassion to those in need.

James and Latasha Green, founders of the grassroots relief effort “IT IS DONE,” left their home in Gary, Indiana just days after the storm struck. Loading up a rented truck with bottled water, non-perishable food, hygiene kits, and blankets, the Greens arrived in one of the hardest-hit neighborhoods on Saturday morning.

“We couldn’t just watch the footage and do nothing,” said James Green. “We’ve been through hardship ourselves, and we know what it feels like to be forgotten. This was our way of saying, ‘You’re not alone.’”

The EF3 tornado, which touched down late Monday evening, left a trail of destruction, displacing hundreds and damaging schools, homes, and businesses. Emergency services have been working tirelessly, but the demand for basic necessities has overwhelmed local resources.

That’s where the Greens stepped in.

Their organization, IT IS DONE, was born out of the couple’s shared belief in action over words. Originally formed to support families in need during the COVID-19 pandemic, the group has since expanded to respond to natural disasters and community crises across the Midwest.

In St. Louis, they partnered with a local church to set up a pop-up relief station, offering hot meals, prayer, and a listening ear to survivors. Volunteers from both cities joined forces, creating a sense of unity amid the devastation.

“What James and Latasha did—it’s not just charity, it’s solidarity,” said Rev. Angela Pierce, pastor of New Hope Community Church. “They reminded us that love still moves people to act.”

The couple plans to return in the coming weeks with more supplies and to help with cleanup efforts.

For the Greens, the mission is far from over.

“We’ll keep showing up,” said Latasha. “Until the job is done—and even after.”
