In a move that sent shockwaves through the Tennessee Volunteers basketball community, sophomore sensation Ja’Kobi Gillespie made a surprise announcement that left fans stunned and Head Coach Rick Barnes reportedly speechless.
Standing at the center of a packed press room in Thompson-Boling Arena, Gillespie addressed the media on Tuesday afternoon with poise well beyond his years. After a standout season that saw him rise from promising freshman to bonafide star, the Vols’ guard delivered the words no one saw coming:
“After a lot of thought, prayer, and conversations with my family and coaches… I’ve decided to declare for the 2025 NBA Draft.”
