In a powerful act of generosity at GMHBA Stadium, Geelong Cats superstar Patrick Dangerfield has announced he will donate his entire $12.9 million bonus and sponsorship earnings to launch a major homelessness initiative in Victoria.
The announcement came during an emotional press conference on Saturday morning, where the AFL champion outlined plans to help fund the construction of 150 transitional housing units and 40 emergency shelter beds aimed at supporting individuals and families experiencing homelessness across the Geelong region.
“I’ve seen the effects of homelessness firsthand growing up, and I know if I ever had the means, I’d give back in a meaningful way,” Dangerfield said. “No one deserves to sleep on the sidewalk. Everyone deserves dignity, safety, and a place to call home.”
A Landmark Community Investment
The initiative — set to partner with local housing organizations and community leaders — will focus on providing not just accommodation, but wraparound services including mental health support, job readiness programs, and long-term housing pathways.
According to project coordinators, construction on the first stage of housing units could begin later this year, pending council approvals.
