Hunter Greene’s Injury

Hunter Greene, 25, has been a standout performer for the Reds this season, boasting a 9-4 record with a 2.83 ERA and 162 strikeouts. However, the team has placed him on the 15-day injured list with right elbow soreness. General Manager Nick Krall emphasized that the move is precautionary, stating, “We put him on the IL for precautionary reasons. It’s elbow soreness. We’re going to be getting an MRI the next couple of days, and we’re just going to try to figure that out.”

Greene had previously undergone Tommy John surgery in 2019, and the team is taking all necessary precautions to ensure his long-term health.

Wade Miley’s Return

In response to Greene’s injury, the Reds have bolstered their rotation by signing veteran left-hander Wade Miley to a one-year major league contract. Miley, 38, returns to Cincinnati after a successful stint with the team from 2020 to 2021. During that period, he posted a 12-10 record with a 3.55 ERA.

The southpaw has spent the last two seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, recording a 9-4 record with a 3.14 ERA over 23 starts in 2023. However, an elbow injury limited his appearances in 2024. Miley underwent Tommy John surgery in April 2024 and is expected to return to the mound by the end of May 2025.

The contract includes a prorated $2.5 million base salary if Miley reaches the major leagues, with incentives that could push his earnings to $4 million based on innings pitched.

With Greene sidelined, the Reds are expected to rely on their remaining rotation members, including Nick Lodolo, Brady Singer, Andrew Abbott, and Nick Martinez. Miley’s return provides additional depth and experience to a pitching staff that has shown promise this season.
