SUNRISE, FL — Excitement has erupted across South Florida and the entire NHL community as Florida Panthers Head Coach Paul Maurice announced today that star forward Sam Reinhart has been named the new team captain.
The news broke in front of a packed press conference at Amerant Bank Arena, where Maurice praised Reinhart’s leadership on and off the ice.
> “Sam is the heartbeat of our team,” Maurice said. “He’s relentless, professional, and he leads by example every single shift. Naming him captain was the easiest decision I’ve had to make.”
Reinhart, 29, is coming off a career-best season in which he led the Panthers in goals and played a heroic role in back-to-back Stanley Cup championships. His four-goal performance in Game 6 of last year’s Final instantly became franchise lore.
The veteran forward was visibly moved by the honor.
> “This means everything,” Reinhart said. “I love this team, I love this city, and I’m grateful for the chance to help lead the guys in that room. We’re not satisfied—we want more Cups.”
Panthers President of Hockey Operations Bill Zito called the move “a clear signal of our commitment to excellence and to the culture Sam has helped build.”
Fans flooded social media calling it “the best news we could hope for”, with thousands of messages of congratulations and excitement for the upcoming season.
Reinhart will become the 11th captain in franchise history, succeeding Aleksander Barkov, who remains a cornerstone of the team but reportedly asked to focus on his two-way play and mentoring role without the formal captaincy.
With Reinhart wearing the “C,” the Panthers are poised to continue their recent run of dominance in the NHL, determined to chase a third straight Stanley Cup title.
Stay tuned for more updates from training camp as the Panthers prepare for another championship push under their new captain Sam Reinhart!
