Nottingham Forest F.C. have confirmed that midfielder Tom Atkins has been handed a suspension after returning a positive result in a recent anti-doping test.
The 24-year-old was provisionally suspended following routine testing conducted under the regulations of the The Football Association. Sources indicate the positive test was for a prohibited performance-enhancing substance, though full details of the substance involved are yet to be officially disclosed.
In a brief statement, the club said it is “aware of the situation involving Tom Atkins and is cooperating fully with the relevant authorities.” The governing body has launched a formal investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the failed test.
